Jervis Bay Christian Community School Limited was formed by the Jervis Bay Baptist Church. The school is located on the property of and is a ministry of the church.
Board
The School is governed by a Board that sets policies for the school.
The Constitution provides for up to nine persons to comprise the Board and represent the church company – all of who must be members of the Jervis Bay Baptist Church:
a) If there is a Pastor of the Church, that Pastor;
b) The Principal or Head Teacher of the School;
c) Two persons elected by and from the parents;
d) One staff member elected by the staff, and
e) Four other persons from the church membership.
Staff
The Principal and the Staff are responsible for implementing the policies and for the day-to-day running of the school.
In the absence of the Principal, the school management is taken over by the Acting Principal, Narelle Lancaster, or in Mrs Lancaster’s absence, Paul McLennan.
Management Committee
The Management Committee (MC) assists the Principal in working through Management issues. The MC operates on a voluntary basis, meeting on the third Monday of the month.
The Management Committee members comprise of:
• The Principal – as Chairperson
• 1 Staff representative
• 3 Parent representatives
Each member of the MC serves for a term of one year (except the Principal) and is selected by the Principal.
Sub-Committees of Management Committee
The school has a number of sub-committees that serve the school community by reporting to the Management Committee. The sub-committees assist the Principal and the MC by making recommendations and by carrying out these recommendations (once approved by MC). The Sub-committees members are made up of staff and parents that serve for a term of 1 year. Wherever possible, at least 1 member of the MC should be part of each sub-committee.
The current Sub Committees are:
• Canteen
• Maintenance
• Fundraising
• Uniform
• Information Technology
Parent Involvement
In agreement with the Vision & Mission Statements of the School, parents are acknowledged as ‘partners’ in the educating
of the student.
This partnership has its outworking in:
1. Committee involvement:
• a possible two parents at Board level
• three parents at Management Committee level
• any number of parents at Sub-committee level.
2. At once per term School Community Meetings where discussion in an open forum may take place.
3. The Principal and Staff are also involving/collaborating with parents:
• when providing regular assistance in the classroom
• on excursions
• at special School events each term
• at Parent/Teacher interviews
• by annual surveys. |
