Safety in the Playground Policy

Safety, security and a sense of ‘belonging’ are high on the agenda for our students, at JBCCS.

In the playground, design of activity areas, cater for the different interests, an age appropriate and lend themselves to fostering co-operation, teamwork as well as quiet, reflective opportunities.

• The ‘construction site’ encourages students to co-operate in the building of roads & dams with the use of their ‘tonka’ toys.

• Teamwork is engendered on the soccer field and netball court.

• The playgym is a fun place where students develop upper body strength and flexibility. The use of the playgym is rostered into the different class grouping.

• The Passive Recreation area, with its sails providing shade, is a favourite for students wishing to suit and chat or play in the sandpit.

Playground rules are few, well understood by students and provide clear guidelines for safe behaviour. A teacher patrols the full extent of the playground continuously during play times. In the more passive activities, co-operative play across K-6 year groups is encouraged and younger students are protected from the active sports of soccer and touch footy.
