The Board of Studies is responsible for making recommendations to the Minister about registration of non-government schools. The Board’s activities involve both setting the regulatory and accountability requirements of the Education Act 1990 for non-government schools, and oversight the compliance with these requirements.
The requirements for non-government schools relate to:
• Corporate governance
• Teaching standards
• Student welfare
• Educational programs
• Boarding facilities
• Public reporting
A documentation and site review of JBCCS was undertaken on 24 August 2006 as part of the registration process. The school was particularly commended for the following:
• The pleasant school environment which provides safe and generous play spaces
• Classrooms which are well organized, appropriately furnished and which provide attractive and stimulating learning environments
• The level of resources that is available to the teachers and students
• The school’s library, which is an excellent resource for a school of this size
• The Literacy and Numeracy Support Unit
• The management structure that has been established by the School Board, as a support to the Principal
• Well-written policies including the school’s Child Protection Policy and Scope and Sequences for Key Learning Areas
