At JBCCS, we realise school is not all about Maths & English. Learning can take place in a variety of settings. Our students have the opportunity to participate in a number of activities and events beyond the curriculum.
These activities include:
• Chess:
A student chess competition is run for one term each year. The ‘Chess Champion’ receives a trophy at the end of the competition.
• Choir:
Students in Year 1 to Year 6 have the opportunity to participate in Choir. Choir promotes the enjoyment of music and singing. Practice takes place for half an hour a week and students perform at school special occasions, at selected community events and at inter-school Eisteddfods and competitions.
• Gardening:
JBCCS has its own school garden and each class works on an area of garden around the school.
• Craft:
Students have the opportunity to participate in a range of craft activities suited to all age groups & interests.
• Asia Focus Day:
Each year we focus on a particular country in the Asian region and student’s research and study that country. The focus day is a ‘celebration’ day that includes a lunch to conclude the unit of study.
• Aboriginal studies:
Aboriginal perspectives are integrated into the school curriculum. The school has had the pleasure of having a number of Aboriginal persons come and talk to the students about Aboriginal life & culture in the local area and beyond.
• Environmental Education:
JBCCS has a number of environmental initiatives in place at school. Students & staff are involved in recycling, reusing materials, and composting food scraps in a worm farm and compost bins as well as learning how we can all make a difference at home.
• Community Service:
The school participates in ‘Clean Up Australia Day’ and visits & performs in local Nursing homes.
• Leadership Program:
Students in Year 5 and 6 are encouraged and trained to take up roles of leadership and greater responsibility in the school. These include leading small groups, running assemblies, assisting with day-to-day tasks around the school and being a positive role model to other students.
